(34), xii, (4), 205, (48) pp. Title with engraved vignette, 1 engraved portrait of the author engraved by Houbraken, 1 folding engraved map (L´Archeveché de Paris), 32 engraved plates by Jan Wandelaar after Claude Aubriet (lacking 1[no 19, replaced with a copy], portrait with some staining to margin, map with long repaired tear and partly with repaired folds, some spots, plates partly with spotting and foxing, 1 with inkstains and minor tear to inner part, last two plates and text partly loose, text with some spotting and foxing, some notes, mostly to margins).
Contemporary half vellum with marbled boards, partly worn and rubbed, staining on upper cover, manuscript title on spine.

Sebastien Vaillant (1669-1721) is honored in France as the man who first understood the nature of sex in plants. He spent many years on the preparation of his ´Botanicon parisiense´, in which he developed his study of sexual characteristics, but died before the work could be published. He was a student of Tournefort´s and considerably influenced Linnaeus" (Hunt).
