Publisher´s original green decorated cloth, worn, split inner joints, gilt title to spine, damages at head and foot, partly loose in binding. (Bookdealer´s label C. F. Edwards, Swansea). Some foxing and wear.

Reprint of the first edition published a year ealier.

The Swedish-born photographer Rejlander acting himself and members of his family in several of the pictures. The other image and twenty-one wood-engravings in the text by Dr. Duchenne de Boulogne, Herr Kindermann and Dr. Wallich. Darwin´s only photographically illustrated work. This was the first higly successeful use of the collotype process of Ernest Edwards.
