8vo. 23 x 15 cm. vi, (2), 231 pp. 14 hand-coloured engraved plates (1, the woodlark, missing). Worn and stained contemporary cloth, hinges cracked, spine extremities defective. Some minor stains and very light foxing. Exlibris of James B. Gallie.
Patrick Syme (1774-1845), Scottish artist, "flower-painter". The rather lengthy (39 pp.) introduction is signed by him and preoccupied with the use of colour in pictorial representations. He promotes the use of "Werner´s Nomenclature of Colours", which he himself had published (based on the work of Abraham Gottlob Werner).
