Rare frontispice to the 1769 work "Diverse Manieri d´adornare i cammini ed ogni altra parte degli edifizi desunte dall´architecttura Egizia, Etrusca, Greca, e Romana" by Giovanni Piranesi, with a dedication to pope Clemens XIII. Etching and engraving. Plate mark ca 480x 710 mm. Framed.
The work illustrates how to ornate fire places, chimneys and all other parts of buildings. It was conceived to inspire architects and followers throughout Europe. The last word in the title, Romana, is partly - and deliberatly - obscured to symbolize the disintegration of Rome.
