Written by Gabriel Magaillans of the Society of Jesus, Missionary Apostolick. Done out of French. London, printed for Thomas Newborough, 1688.
8vo. 19 x 12 cm. (24), 148, 193-352 pp. P. 149 and onwards misnumbered by the printer. Illustrated with woodcuts of Chinese signs (p. 83) and canal works (p. 117). Lacks the folding plan of ´Pekim´ (Beijing) and a folding plate.
Contemporary calf boards with new gilt spine with red and green labels. New end-leaves. Minor stains. Recurring light damp in inner margin. Leaves B2-7 hang on one thread.

Löwendahl, Sino-Western Relations, Supplement 2012, 1584. First English edition, translated from the French by John Ogilby. First French edition the same year, translated from Magelhaes´ Portugese manuscript by Claude Bernou.
