Folio. 540 x 397 mm. (4) pp. 37 double-page plates with hand-coulored tables and maps, of which 1 a globe map. Worn contemporary half calf with gilt spine and marbled boards. Repaired worming in lower corners of plates 21-35, with some loss of text.
Emmanuel Auguste Dieudonné de las Cases (1766-1842) was a French map-maker. While in exile, he published the first edition of his historical atlas in London in 1801 (in English and under the pseudonym Le Sage). The first French edition was printed in Paris in 1803-04. The work was a great success and appeared in numerous editions
