Contemporary calf with light brown spine labels and sprinkled edges. Label on volume I damaged. Some minor stains and foxing. Occasional damp in margins. Owner´s signature of J. Sahlgren, dated 1699, on half title of volume I, exlibris of Gustaf Cson Lewenhaupt on its front board inside, within incision in doublure. Owner´s signature of Claes Annerstedt on front fly leaves of volumes II-IV.

Johann Jacob Hofmann (1635-1706), professor of Greek and history at the university in Basel. The first edition (in 2 volumes) of the work appeared in 1677 and was based on the 1596 Dictiónarium historicum... by Charles Estienne.
