Folio. 335 x 231 mm. (11, 1 blank), 739, (4), 740, 761-891, 898-1098, (4), 1089-1095, (1 blank, 19) pp. With an engraved extra title. All four maps in facsimile.
Rebacked contemporary calf with red spine label, boards with tooled frames, sprinkled edges. Some minor stains. Occasional pencil markings and notes in margins. Engraved extra title repaired in inner margin, printed title near loose. Loss of top corner with loss of pagination pp. 173-76. Damp in inner margin at the end. Bookplate of Glyndebourne on front board inside.
Peter Heylyn or Heylin (1599-1662), English ecclesiastic and writer. The first edition was printed in 1652. The Cosmographie contains what is probably the first printed description of Australia.
