4to. 290 x 225 mm. (8), xvi, 198 pp. Illustrated with engraved vignettes and initials. Engraved frontispiece. 44 engraved plates, of which 42 folding. Somewhat worn contemporary calf with gilt spine with red label. Worming at head of spine and front board at hinge. Hand-written paper label at foot of spine, traces of erased notes on front fly leaf. A few minor stains.
First part only (out of 2). The entire work contained 155 plates. Jaques-Francois Blondel (1705-1774) was a French architect, immensly influential as an educator and author. At his private school, the École des Arts in Paris, many famous artists and architects got their education, for example Boullée, Desprez, de Wailly and the Anglo-Swedish architect William Chambers.
