Occasional minor stains, but overall a clean and bright copy. Exlibris of Archibald Grant of Monymusk on front board insides, presentation in ink to the same on titles. 3 volumes.
Peter Shaw´s (1694-1763) edition of Bacon, he also edited Robert Boyle. Shaw was an English physician, at the courts of George II and III.
Sir Archibald Grant (1696-1778) became involved in fraudulent stock speculations in 1727 and was expelled from the House of Commons. In later life he devoted his time to improving his estate, introducing modern methods of agriculture and forestry. David Hume wrote of him that planting trees ´was the only laudable thing he has ever done´ (Wikipedia).
