4to. 246 x 190 mm. (16), 707, (1) pp. 37 folding engraved plates. Engraved vignette pasted on p. 1.
Worn contemporary calf with gilt spine, red edges. Head and foot of spine defective, cracks in hinges at top. Some minor stains and occasional foxing. One plate with paper repairs at outer edge. Modern exlibris on front board inside.
Dal Sveriges zoologiska litteratur, pp. 51-53. First part of 8. After publishing part 1, De Geer was critisized for sticking too close to his idol Réaumur, which made him so upset that he burnt the manuscript. Part 2 wasn´t published until 1771 and the author vowed to supply all who had purchased the first part with that and the coming for free, a promise he seems to have honoured. The work was finished in 1778.
