4to. 252 x 188 mm. (4), xliv, 728, (4), lxxx, 608 pp. Engraved vignette and engraved initial on p. 1 in both volumes. 38 and 48 folding engraved plates respectively (86 in all). Slightly worn near uniform contemporary calf with gilt spines with 5 raised bands and red edges. Occasional foxing, some minor stains. Library stamps and handwritten signa from Kulturbund z. d. E. D. Kamenz/Sa. 2 volumes.

René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur (1683-1757), French matematician and scientist. His Memoires... was published 1734-42 in 6 volumes. Tome V deals -among otherthings- a lot with bees and beekeeping, continued in tome VI, which also deals with hornets and bumblebees.
