12mo. 137 x 75 mm. 624, 625-1488, 1489-2136, 2137-2902 pp. Contemporary mottled calf with gilt spines with red labels, all edges red. Two first volumes with damp-stains on boards. Clean, but somewhat closely shaved copies, partial loss of heading and pagination on a few pages. Faint damp in top corner pp. 2809-32. Stamps of Charles Marie de La Condamine on titles. 4 volumes.
The Journal was established in 1665 by Denis de Sallo, and the first of its kind (Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society appeared for the first time 2 months later).
