8:o (about 200x123 mm.). (3, lacks halftitle), VI-XXVIII, (1)-361, (1 blank) pp. 1 lithograph frontispiece (on china paper, mounted, some foxing), 11 plates (all, some foxing, Kalmuck scripture with translations).
Contemporary brown claf, somewhat worn, gilt frames, gilt edges of covers, gilt spine in five compartments, some damage at head, redspeckled edges. Minor foxing. Bookplate of Gösta Nobel.
First french translation. Originally published in a German edtion in Riga 1804.
Provenance: Gustaf Oscar Ludvig (Gösta) Nobel (1886-1955), youngest son of Ludvig and Edla Nobel, was in Baku between 1914-17 and later took over as Managing Director over Branobel or "The Nobel Brothers Company". The oil company was founded in Baku by his father and the two brothers Alfred and Robert. He and his family had to flee Russia 1918 during the Russian revolution.
