4to. 297 x 221 mm. (2), XLII, 498, (2), XLIX, (4), 348, (2), VIII, (1 blank), 3-311 pp. 2 engraved frontispieces, 11 engraved plates, of which 1 folding. Worn and rebacked later 19th century half calf with gilt spines and marbled boards. Pp. 355-58 in first volume loose and from another copy. Some foxing and a few minor stains. Offsetting from plates on adjacent text. Tear in lower margin of p. 39 in first volume. 2 volumes.
First printed edition of Pepys´s diaries. The transcription by John Smith was made in 1819-22. Braybrooke´s edition is an abridgement, representing about a fourth of the entire diary.
