Later (early 19th century) brown half leather, very worn, lacks lower board, faded spine in five compartmets, damaged at head,redspeckled edges. Marginal worming, especially at beginning, some staining and foxing. Remains of old stamp on title.
This history of an Augustinian convent in Goa founded in 1606 provides a wealth of information on many subjects relating to the Portigiese in the East.
The author (his secular name was manuel Gomes Freire), was a discalced Augustinian and served as chronicler and vicar of his congregation. His works are still considered among the classics of Portuguese literature.
