Small 8:o (about 157x98 mm.). (14, may lack a last blank leaf), (1)-555 (lacks pp. 153-160), (5, last blank), (4), 1-404, (4) pp. 30 partly folding edngraved maps, plans and plates (of 40, lacks 10, 2 plates somewhat dampstained in the margins), 2 engraved vignettes.
Contemporary brown half calf, very worn, richly gilt spines in 5 compartments, spine to vol. I partly defective, red edges. Title to vol II and first leaf dampstained in inner margin, some foxing. 2 volumes.

First edition. His book remains today as a reference work on the culture and civilization of the only country in Southeast Asia that was never colonized by a European power.
