DANCE OF DEATH WITH FORE-EDGE PAINTING. HOLBEIN, HANS/DEUCHAR, DAVID (engr.). The Dances of Death, through the Various Stages of Human Life: Wherein the Capriciousness of that Tyrant is Exhibited in Forty-Six Copper Plates, done from the Original Designs, which were Cut in Wood, and Afterwards Painted, by John Holbein, in the Town House of Basil. To which are Prefixed, Descriptions of each Plate in French and English, with the Scripture Text from which the Designs were taken. Etched by D. Deuchar, F.A.S. London, printed by W. Smith and Co., 1803.
Small 4to. 192 x 152 mm. (4), 47, (1) pp. Engraved frontispiece, engraved extra title (in French), 48 engraved plates. Red contemporary long-grain moroccowith gilt spine, boards with gilt and and tooled frames, all edges gilt. Somewhat worn. Some foxing, faint offsetting from plates, damp in inner margin of plate at p. 45.Traces of older label or bookplate and printed slip with the name John Fowler on front board inside.
