4to. 278 x 210 mm. (4), VIII-LXII, (2), 436, (2), V-XV, (1 blank), 466 pp. 2 engraved portraits, 12 engraved plates and 1 folding engraved map. Well-preserved green near contemporary half morocco with gilt spines with raised bands, marbled boards and yellow edges. Some printer´s ink spotting in margin pp. 412-13 in first volume. Exlibris of Christian Hammer. 2 volumes.
Third (?) edition, but first illustrated. Originally published in 1741-43, in 4 volumes. It was the collaborative work on ancient Greek history by a circle of authors around the brothers Philipp qnd Charles Yorke, published anonymously. The other authors were Thomas Birch, Henry Coventry, John Green, Samuel Salter, Catherine Talbot, Daniel Wray, George Henry Rooke, John Heaton, John Lawry and William Heberden. The original edition was printed in 10 copies, a later, 1781, in 1 volume, 100 copies (source: Wikipedia).
