These fine set of prints depicts important battles between Sweden and Russia in the Great Northern War and are rarely seen handcoloured: The battle of Lesnaya 1708, Poltava 1709 and Hangö 1714.

Russian painter Pierre-Denis Martin le jeune (c. 1663-1742), French engravers Charles Simonneau (1645-1728) and Nikolas Martin de Larmessin (1640-1725).
ALL PLATES MOUNTED ON MASONITE TOGETHER WITH LATER PASSEPARTOUTS, plates trimmed to platemark.
Battle of Lesnaya (Lesna) - some spotting to text part.
Battle of Poltava - some soiling to text part.
Battle of Poltava - some repairs to upper left part, some slight spotting, a few repairs to text part.
Battle of Gangut (Naval battle of Hangö) - some minor spotting.
The first impressions of these plates have captions in French, and the second and third set have captions in Russian.
Provenance: Bought at Klemming´s famous antiquarian bookshop in Stockholm (catalogue 210: Klemmings antikvariat 100 år 1845 5/5 1945, Stockholm).
