Hand-coloured engraved map with large allegorical cartouche representing European trade with China, c. 495x575 mm. Some creases, slight soiling to margins.
Re-issue of map by Mattias Seutter. From Lotter´s Atlas Novus.
Decorative map of China, that also shows Korea and part of Japan. The coloured area defines the provinces and the Great Wall is depicted in pictorial form. The title cartouche is surrounded by five allegorical figures combining knowledge, power and influence who look out at the map of China, while the seated figure of Prosperity points to some trading junks at sea. Small key at upper right which identifies cities, towns and other physical features, a mileage scale at lower left.
