DÖBEREINER, JOHANN WOLFGANG. Autograph letter signed (ALS), to German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (as Staatsminister), dated Jena, 4. July 1821. A letter of recommendation for the Swedish-Finnish mineralogist Nils Nordenskjöld.
1 page in 8vo (c. 230x190 mm), envelope with red seal. Letter folded, some slight spots.

Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner (1780-1849), German chemist, professor of chemistry and pharmacy at the University of Jena. Goethe was a friend of Döbereiner and also attended his lectures.

Nils Gustaf Nordenskiöld (1792-1866), a Swedish-Finnish mineralogist and traveller. He was the father of the famous polar explorer Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld.
