With 2 full-page photographic portraits of Vakhtangov, 12 colour full-page chromo-lithograph plates, 14 mezzotint plates, with tissue guards, and numerous photographic illustrations in the text, showing photographs of the production and sketches for costumes and scenery by Ignaty Nivinskii (Nivinsky).
Publisher´s original printed decorated wrapper in colours (some soiling and foxing, some creases, minor tears and small damages to margins, some minor loss, spine with damages). Text with some browning to outer margins. Owner´s stamp on inside of cover (Kim Mällberg). Translated from Italian by M. A. Osorgina.
First edition of this commemoration of Vakhtangov´s famous production of Princess Turandot at the Third Moscow Art Theatre. It became one of the symbols of a new theatrical era.
Ignaty Nivinsky (1881-1933), Russian graphic artist, painter, illustrator, theatrical designer, interior designer, architect and teacher. He amongst others designed the theatrical set for August Strindberg´s Erik XIV in 1921.
