CHARLES DAVENANT (1656-1714), English economist, politician and pamphleteer. Part I was publish4ed in the previous year, but the two are independent. The essay on East Indian trade believed to be Devenant trying to attract the attention of the East India Company, being in need of employment after being ousted from public office.
