Uncommon map.

From Waghenaer´s "Spieghel der Zeewaerdt", known as the world´s earliest printed sea atlas. The first edition was issued in 1584 and this present Latin edition was either published in 1586 or 1591.
Waghenaer used to sail the Baltics, but settled in his native port town of Enkhuizen in northern Holland in 1579 and began to prepare his great sea atlas, which became one of the most famous and intriguing atlas of all times. It was not only a great innovation but also a great work of art beautifully laid out and executed by one of the best engravers in Holland - Jan van Deutecom. The atlas became an instant success and became the blue print for similar works for the next several hundred years.
