Original morocco-backed marbled boards, worn, faded spine lettered and decorated in gold, dated at the foot (1907), top edge gilt, otherwise uncut, pictorial lithographic wrapper bound in, marbled endpapers. One silk marker.
The work was issued in two bindings: printed wrappers and morocco-backed boards, with the printed wrappers bound in, the present copy is a fine example of the latter binding, lower wrapper with crease.
First edition. Charcot´s French Antarctic Expedition initially intended to search for Nordenskjöld, from whose Antarctic expedition there had been no word in the spring of 1903. However, on reaching Buenos Aires and finding that the Swedish expedition had returned safely, Charcot continued to the Palmer Archipelago and the Graham Land Coast.
