Svante Arrhenius (1859-1927), Swedish chemist and physicist, the first from his country to receive the Nobel prize. He made many important contributions to these fields, but also in hematology an meteorology. His 1896 "Über den Einfluss des atmosfärischen Kohlensäuregehalts... was the first description of the carbon dioxide role in the greenhouse effect.
