8vo. (32), 611, 610-1063, (1 blank, 142) pp. Title printed with red and black. Illustrated with woodcuts. 1 folding woodcut map (Rome), 1 folding woodcut plate (military camp). Contemporary vellum with hand-written title on spine. A few minor stains, occasional damp in corners and margins, some notes with ink. Faint damp on title and the 7 following leaves. Owner´s note on front board inside: "Gustaf Rudbeck. Uppsala d. 20/9 1900. skänkt af Friherre Per Hierta".

Thomas Dempster (1579-1625), Scottish scholar, historian and traveller. After leaving Scotland and the clan feuds being fought there, and leading an itinerant existence as a professor in Europe, his first edition of Rosinus´s Antiquitatum Romanarum... in 1613 drew the attention of the Grand Duke Cosimo II of Tuscany, who commissioned him to write a history of the Etruscans, which was published in 1723.
