Not uniform yellowed and somewhat worn contemporary blindtooled pigskin over boards, newer vellum spines, all edges red. Clasps missing. Damp in margins throughout first volume, minor stains, a few tears. Sparsely annotated with ink in first volume, heavily in second. Owner´s signature of Israël Wising in first volume, other and exlibris of Christian Hammer in the second. 2 volumes.

Simon Pauli the Elder (1534-1591) was a German theologian who studied for Melanchton at Wittenberg and later became pastor in Rostock and dean of the town´s university.
