Friedrich von Gentz (1764-1832) was a German diplomat and political writer. (Born a commoner, he was knighted by the crown of Sweden in 1804). A pupil of Kant´s he was enthusiastic at the oputbreak of the French revolution, but soon changed his view and became a fierce and outspoken adversary, promoting Great Britain as the saviour from Napoleon´s dominance, which made his position in neutral Prussia untenable. He was an admirer of British politic theoretician Edmund Burke, and made many friends in Great Britain.
