Publisher´s blue cloth, lettered in gold, dust jacket in the first version (of two) with advertisments for eleven other books by the same publisher, including Hitler´s Mein Kampf (worn and rubbed, partly creased, damage to upper spine).
First edition of one of the classics in American photobook history and the first book of American photographer Dorothea Lange (1895-1965). This is a documentary of the condition of farmers and country dwellers during the 1930s, the years of the Great Depression in America. The photographs are accompanied by text by Lange´s husband Paul S. Taylor and quotes from the portrayed farmers.
