4to (268 x 205 mm.). xii, 457 pp. With 2 engraved portraits, 6 engraved plates and 5 folding engraved maps (frontispiece portrait mounted, portrait and a few leaves in the beginning with repaired tear in the margin, some spotting, some worming to margins, plates mostly foxed or browned, map of Stockholm with tear, minor tears to other maps).
Contemporary half calf, worn, covers detached, renovated and with reinforced inner hinges, gilt spine with red label.
Thomas Thomson (1773-1852), Scottish chemist. His main topics are mineralogy and mining, but he takes interest in other matters as well, e. g. the British misconception of the former Swedish king Gustav III.
