Svenonius reacts against the exaggerated esteem in Europe of Chinese science and is also unable to believe that the Chinese moral philosophy, so highly praised by the Jesuits, coulkd be superior to the European.
Svenonius made to voyages to Canton as chaplain on the Swedish East India Companu ship Kalmar. He gives much information on the Chinese language and reproduces a number of characters.
