Third edition. Originally published in 1612. Wolfgang Franz (sometimes Frantze or Franzius) (1564-1628) was a Lutheran theologian and professor in Wittenberg. His Historia animalium sacra... is a zoololgical guidebook for preachers, aimed at helping them to avoid allegorical mistakes. It was very popular and printed in many new editions as late as the 18th century.
