MIKE WALSH, (born 1948): "The last disaster" 1991 (The funeral of Andy Warhol), screenprint on paper, signed on verso, ed. 43/200, c. 50x71 cm.
Description:
Walsh´s circle consisted of Andy Warhol and his studio The Factory. 1986. Barely a year before Warhol passed Walsh captured him on camera. Photographs from Warhols funeral was then used to compose a series of pictures: a paraphrase of sorts on Warhol´s own "Gangster Funeral" from 1963. Walsh´s series was named "The Last Disaster", referencing Warhol´s "Death and Disasters" in which Warhol made use of news-paper cut-outs of the deceased, atomic bombs, electric chairs, and other macabre objects.
