Overbury´s poem, A Wife, 1638

OVERBURY, THOMAS. His Wife. With Additions of New Characters, and many other Witty Conceits never before Printed. The sixteenth Impression. London (printed by Iohn Havoland, for A. Crooke) 1638.

Small 8:o (about 140x85 mm.). (320) pp. Engraved frontispiece portrait (laid down, defective with some text loss in lower inner corner, spotted).
Later (late 19th century) brown full leather, somewhat worn, gilt edges of covers, gilt spine. Some worming in upper margin. Some minor spotting.

Overbury´s poem, A Wife, was published posthumously in 1614, and ran througt six editions within a year, the scandal connected with the murder of the author by poison while interred in the Tower of London greatly aiding its success
