LEOPOLD I (1790-1865), king of the Belgians 1830-65. Autograph letter, not signed, to queen Victoria, dated 21 june (18)45 ?. 6 lines on a small letter in 8vo (175x110 mm.). With small mounted cut (portrait of Leopold I) in the corner. Together with black-edged envelope "The Queen Windsor Castle" with black seal.
Leopold I (1790 - 1865) was the first King of the Belgians (from 1831), following Belgium´s independence from the Netherlands. He was the founder of the Belgian line of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. His children included Leopold II of Belgium and Carlota of Mexico, Empress-Consort of Maximilian I of Mexico. He was a maternal uncle and adviser of Queen Victoria.
