PORTRAIT ALBUM C. 1750. 535 partly hand-coloured engraved portraits, cut to contour and pasted on 121 leaves with hand-written identifications and comments in French, 7-page hand-written alphabetical index -all in ink. Later notes in Swedish with pencil.
Oblong. 123 x 195 mm. Worn contemporary calf with raised bands, gilt spine with red label, gilt dentelles on boards. Label title: Bilder Kabinet. Some stains, some damp at edges. 7 leaves cut off from the middle, which means that 14 of the indexed portraits are missing.
Clippings from numerous unidentified sources, portraits of kings, popes, clergy, deities, saints, philosophers etc. Provenance unknown.
