NEW CONTEMPORARY DESIGN YASEMIN SONGUR, textilt konstverk, MFA 2020

Asking the question: How can the waffle weave be reinterpreted through material, technical and colour research, the textiles of this MA degree collection revolve around the weaving technique with the aim of presenting various woven textiles, where the waffle has been used in different ways. The weave, with its three- dimensional structure creates an interesting canvas to experiment upon as its structure creates both texture as well as depth to the textile. As a result, the textiles can be developed further towards different types of products such as sound absorbency textiles, curtains and blankets.

Yasemin Songur is a half Finnish and half Turkish textile designer based in Sweden. She has a Master´s degree from the Swedish School of Textiles, where she advanced her skills in hand- as well as industrial jacquard loom weaving. Her work explores colour effects and reinterpreting traditional techniques and expressions.
