He returned to Sweden in 1757, directed the shipyards in Karlskrona and Stockholm, was raised to Admiral of the Fleet, and was an active member of the Swedish Academy of Sciencw. He was the founder of modern Swedish shipbuilding, as strong in mathematical theory as in practical experimentation. Besides his famous "Architectura" he wrote a "Traité de la construction des vaisseaux" for Descriptions des arts et métiers (vol. 13) in 1779, reprinted in 1781. He had several important tracts in Swedish published in the Proceedings of the Swedish Academy of Sciences. (Lindberg, Swedish Books 1280-1967, printed 1968, p. 41).
