17 april

Catalogue

Kjell Engman and Bertil Vallien are two of Sweden’s most renowned glass designers, active at Kosta Boda for over 50 years. Their artistic styles differ, but they share a common love for colorful sculptural glass.

Kjell Engman, born in Stockholm, trained at Konstfack and at the renowned, trendsetting Pilchuck Glass School outside Seattle in the northwestern United States. Since 1978, he has worked as a glass artist and designer at Kosta Boda. Engman’s glass art is characterized by vibrant colors, generous playful forms, and a constant presence of imagination and humor. Coming from a family of musicians, Engman himself has a background as a rock musician, primarily as a guitarist. This musical heritage is evident in his glass art, which is populated by animals, nature, and symbols from both everyday life and his imagination.
